Highlights
1) William Tecumseh Sherman Monument
Located at Grand Army Plaza near 59th Street & 5th Avenue, this gilded statue commemorates Sherman’s “March to the Sea,” led by a winged figure of Victory.
2) The Pond & Gapstow Bridge
The park’s southernmost pond, framed by Gapstow Bridge, offers seasonally changing views and appears in films like The Devil Wears Prada and Home Alone 2.
3) Central Park Zoo
Formed from a collection of gifted exotic animals, the zoo features many natural habitats, including the iconic Sea Lion Pool. You can view the Sea Lion pool from outside the gate.
4) The Arsenal
A pre-park military building that once sheltered the gifted animals before they were relocated to the zoo. Step inside for larger-than-life murals.
5) Delacorte Musical Clock
Donated by George Delacorte, this clock features six bronze animals that rotate to music and sits near the entrance to the Tisch Children’s Zoo. You can see more of Delacorte's gifts in the park - the Delacorte Theatre and the Alice in Wonderland sculpture.
6) Balto's Statue
A tribute to Balto, the sled dog who helped deliver life-saving medicine during the 1925 serum run to Nome, Alaska.
7) The Mall & Literary Walk
The only straight promenade in Central Park lined with American elm trees and statues honoring notable literary and historical figures.
8) Naumburg Bandshell & Rumsey Playfield
A central gathering space for concerts and community events, long associated with live performances in the park.
9) Bethesda Terrace
One of the park’s most iconic spots, known for proposals and weddings, and centered on the Angel of the Waters fountain that commemorates the opening of the Croton Aqueduct. Make sure to approach via the underground arcade with a stunning Minton tile ceiling.
10) Strawberry Fields
A peaceful memorial to John Lennon of The Beatles, located near his former home at The Dakota.
11) Bow Bridge & The Ramble
A wooded, winding area designed to feel wild and untamed, offering a quiet escape within the park.
12) Belvedere Castle
A decorative folly perched on one of the park’s highest points, Vista Rock, offering scenic views of the surrounding landscape.
