— AMER FORT —
A Closer Look Inside
Layout of the Fort
Amer Fort sits atop a hill and is divided into four courtyards, each separated by a magnificent gateway and grand staircase.

The magenta line separates the public and official courts from the private and residential ones.
First Courtyard (Jaleb Chowk)
The first courtyard is publicly accessible and requires no ticket to enter. Visitors can walk and enter through the Sun Gate (Suraj Pol) or climb in a vehicle and enter through the Moon Gate (Chand Pol). Both entrances meet at the Jaleb Chowk.

Pass the ticket booth to enter a balcony with a stunning view of the Jaigarh Fort and Amer Town. Climb up the ramp nearby to find the Shila Mata Temple.

Second Courtyard
Climb through the Singh Pol, and you enter the Second Courtyard. The ticketed area starts from here and you will need to pass a quick security check.
The highlight of this courtyard is the Diwan-i-Aam (Hall of Public Audience) and the ornately frescoed Ganesh Pol. To the side, you can also visit the Royal Hammam and see the Sattais Kachcheris (court of scribes).

Third Courtyard
The Ganesh Pol takes you to the residential section of the fort, where the King would reside in the Sukh Niwas (House of Pleasure) with a beautiful garden before it.

On the other side lies the Sheesh Mahal (Palace of Mirrors), which served as the Hall of Private Audience. Climb to the upper levels to see the Jas Mandir and get a dizzying view of the entire Amer valley and the Maota lake.

Fourth Courtyard (Zenana)
A series of narrow alleys takes you to the next and final courtyard, the Zenana, bordered by the residences of the royal ladies. A pleasure pavilion (Baradari) sits in the center of the space.

Exit
A narrow path along the fort's edge, lined with souvenir shops, takes you back to the Jaleb Chowk.
