Frequently Asked Questions
Q: Can I buy Agra Fort tickets online?
Yes, you can book them online through the official ASI portal.
Q: Can I buy Agra Fort tickets offline?
Yes, the Agra Fort Ticket Centre is situated near the Amar Singh Gate, close to the Shivaji Memorial circle
Q: How long will it take to see Agra Fort?
About 2 - 2.5 hours depending on the depth of your interest. There are numerous structures to see inside.
Q: Can I hire a guide at the site?
Private guides can usually be found near the entrance (₹800-₹1500), but their narration can be inconsistent or embellished. The Tourismo audio guide is a reliable alternative with professional narration and a GPS-guided route.
Q: Can I visit Agra Fort in summer?
Yes, the fort is open year-round, but summer (April-June) can be extremely hot (40-45°C). If visiting in summer, go at 6:30 AM sharp when it opens, and bring plenty of water, sunscreen, and a hat. You'll have the place nearly to yourself, and the heat becomes bearable by 8:30 AM.
Q: Is Agra Fort open on Friday?
Yes. Unlike the Taj Mahal, Agra Fort is open on all 7 days of the week.
Q: Is a visit to Agra Fort worth it?
Yes, definitely. According to a Ministry of Tourism report, Akbar's Tomb attracted more than 200k visitors in FY 2024-25. For more details, read our full guide.
Q: Can I fit Agra Fort in a day trip from Delhi?
Yes! Take an early Gatimaan Express or Shatabdi Express (departs Delhi 8-10 AM, reaches Agra 10 AM-12 PM). Visit Agra Fort and then the Taj Mahal, and return on the evening train. Consider an overnight stay to see more without rushing.
Q: Do I need to book tickets in advance?
Not mandatory but recommended to skip ticket counter queues, especially on weekends. Online booking through ASI portal takes 5 minutes. If you've bought the ADA combo ticket for the Taj Mahal, you don't need a separate ticket.
Q: Is Agra Fort less crowded than the Taj Mahal?
Somewhat—but keep in mind that about one in three visitors to the Taj Mahal also visit Agra Fort. It’s the second-most visited ASI-protected monument in India.
Q: Are there restrooms inside?
Yes, basic restrooms are available in the fort premises. They're functional but not luxurious—bring your own tissue paper.
Q: Can I bring food and water?
Water bottles are allowed and highly recommended (though there are water stations inside). Food is not permitted inside the monument complex—finish eating before entering.
Q: Is there a dress code?
No strict dress code, but modest clothing (covering shoulders and knees) is recommended out of respect. Comfortable walking shoes are essential—you'll climb stairs and walk on uneven pathways.
Q: Are there lockers or cloakroom facilities?
Yes, a cloakroom is available near the ticket office. But it's best not to bring large bags or luggage. Carry only essentials: phone, wallet, and water bottle.
Q: Is there a photography fee?
For ordinary personal photography with your own DSLR (just taking normal photos while you walk around), there is generally no separate fee beyond the entry ticket. Personal still photography is allowed as part of a regular visit.
